For the most part, first-person shooters all sound the same to me. Even though I listen to a lot of music, metal and hard rock have never really been my thing. As a result, the blaring electric guitars and the crashing drums just come across as meaningless racket to me.
I am aware that a great deal of craftsmanship goes into these soundtracks, particularly in a game such as Doom, and that the sound design is linked in with the rhythm and pace of each level, in addition to the design of the environment, but isn’t it just noise, innit? Despite the fact that I enjoy both music and video games, I’ve never truly connected with the soundtracks of video games.
When I’m playing a video game that I’m not reviewing, I usually put on some music to pass the time when I’m not interacting with the plot. This is especially true when I’m playing a first-person shooter, because the narrative often feels like it takes a back seat to the action.
Because of this, I need a shooter with an Alt Z soundtrack so that I may add my own sound design on top of whichever one was there originally. It’s kind of pop, kind of not, kind of melancholy, kind of peppy; it’s ethereal without being a ballad and rhythmic without being a bop. Alt Z is the music that combines all of these elements.
Although Billie Eilish and Halsey are undoubtedly the most well-known artists in the alt-Z genre, none of them exclusively performs alt-z music. Phoebe Bridgers and Lorde are other great examples, as are artists like Olivia O’Brien, Maggie Lindemann, Fletcher, Charlotte Lawrence, and Bulow, who aren’t as well-known but have a more alternative rock sound.
- If all of that seems a little bit complicated, there’s always Lorde.
- In essence, what I’m looking for is a Lorde sniper.
- Make them all dance to the sound of the shotgun going boom boom boom boom.
- Heavy metal is a go-to for Doom (and so many knockoffs) because of its strong intensity and incredibly violent nature.
This is why heavy metal is a go-to for Doom. You won’t be able to play it slowly at all. It is nonstop action, which is appropriate for a high-pressure shooter, and there is no downtime. I’m not advocating that you just copy and paste the levels from Sober, You Should Be Sad, or Bitter on top of Doom’s existing maps.
Even though it is the music that I listen to when playing Doom, I am aware that it is not a perfect fit for the atmosphere that the game is trying to create. In point of fact, there are moments when I need to switch to Paramore so that I can maintain a high level of energy – Riot! era But that’s a debate for another day; right now I want to talk about Paramore.
They should undoubtedly be the true soundtrack to Doom. My request is not for existing shooters to incorporate music from Alt Z, but rather for a new shooter game to be developed with the atmosphere of Alt Z music as its inspiration. The genre of shooters is known for being one of the most fast-paced, but what if they weren’t? What if they decided to go more slowly? Songs like Undrunk or Killing Boys (again, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, just think ‘Lorde’) have a creeping elegance to them.
I realize that they’re not all performed at full blast like Doom, and I’m not expecting for everything to be in slow motion. They move in a manner that is slow, methodical, and measured. They are not full of raw energy like the music from Doom; rather, they are considerably more precise. Despite this, though, they have the same muddled and emotional quality.
Alt Z songs are about love and loss, about making poor choices, about making errors, and about the anxiety and anguish that result from such things. They may have slower melodies, but that doesn’t imply they’re stiff and regimented; they still have all the strength of heavy metal, it’s just presented in an entirely different way.
There would be more of a dance element to an Alt Z shooter as opposed to the typical gameplay of knocking down doors and blasting hordes in the face while blood and viscera fly everywhere. In open areas, placement will be of the utmost importance. You should spend less time ducking for cover and more time making the most of the available space.
Things move at a more leisurely pace and are more cohesive; the overall environment is flowing rather than chaotic. This particular sequence from Lorde’s Green Light music video serves as an excellent illustration of what I mean. Although it is quite obvious that she is performing an interpretive dance on the street rather than shooting zombies, the phrase does a good job of capturing the spirit of the situation.
Another illustration of Alt Z’s dance moves may be seen in the film Joke’s On You, which features Charlotte Lawrence engulfed in flames. There is something about the way that Alt Z combines the traditional pop formula with a deeper layer of slower verses that makes it suitable for the fast-then-slow, careful-but-careless actions that a shooter may take advantage of.
Shooters often reward either courageous and quick pushes into enemy groups or hyper-precise aiming. Sometimes both are rewarded. It is possible for an Alt Z shooter to accomplish both goals without plagiarizing either one. In an Alt Z shooter, the focus would be on maintaining accuracy while moving quickly and chaotically, rather than the other way around.
While players would be encouraged to make deliberate, rhythmic motions, the actual shot would have a confident, carefree quality to it. When I’m playing mindless shooters, I already listen to Alt Z music constantly because it’s so good, but when I play such games, I listen to it even more. Now that you have it, build a game out of it.

What is Vapour soul?
Yeah, no. When my buddy first introduced Vapor Soul to me, I had no idea what it was, but let me tell you, it has been one of my favorite genres ever since my first year of college, and I had no idea that it had a name. * Also, I’m going to assume that someone heard that Vapor Soul is the “genre” that they listen to the most via our cherished Spotify Wrapped and that’s why I’m being asked this question.
- ~Vapor Soul~ The question is, what precisely is it? According to Urban Dictionary, Vapor Soul is comparable to genres such as Electronic Dance Music (EDM), Indie Pop, and Lofi (which I discuss previously, here ).
- Vapor Soul is mentioned on another website (read the description of the playlist for more information), along with comparable subgenres such as electropop, chillwave, and indie poptimism (did my sister play that game?).
Even if they are connected in many ways, it is still a fairly vast spectrum when it comes to the genre; nonetheless, it appears that the only way to characterize someone’s taste in music these days is to either:
- Give a rundown of the many musical styles that are featured most frequently in the works that you listen to.
- Name some of the musicians whose work you are enjoying the most right now.
- Combine either number one or two with a term that has a lot of connotation attached to it, such as foggy, shadow, or stank.
- Mix 1, 2, and 3 together, or come up with your very unique flavor of Mountain Dew (no, not these ones ). You get the picture. Sweet Lightning, Mountain Fever, Poolside Soda Pop, Prince Punk, and Giggle Grunge are some examples. In the comments, please let me know if you have any excellent ones to share.
*I don’t know whether it’s just me, but it seems like it would have been a lot simpler to define your musical preferences ten years ago. It might be an age thing, but even that, it’s still really strange. In any case, let’s go back to Vapor Soul. What is it that unites all of these different genres, subgenres, styles, or whatever else you want to name them? And what exactly is meant by the term “vapor soul” in this context? Now, let’s dissect the meaning of these terms and add a dash of Eason logic to the mix till we get at some joyful little conclusions.
A material that is dispersed or held in suspension in the air, particularly one that is ordinarily liquid or solid. “thick blankets of smoke and clouds of poisonous vapor” Utter one’s words in a manner that is empty, boastful, or arrogant. “he was reminiscing about the good old days”; “he was waxing nostalgic” First things first, I’m going to start using “vapor” in a sentence as a verb right now.
Second, have you listened to the vapor soul playlist that I linked to earlier in this paragraph? Do you even bother to open the links (please do so since they are vital, particularly if your mind enjoys being diverted like mine)? You’ll find that there are a few things in common, including:
- There is a significant amount of reverb being applied to at least one instrument or the primary voice.
- There is at least one piece of music or sound that may be identified with the word “water.” Imagine sounds like as steel drums, water drops, pads with a misty tone, leads, or samples.
- Underneath the more prominent leads is a setting that may be described as somewhat laid-back. To put it another way, you could picture yourself listening to this music as it was being played in a chilly and damp tunnel or close to an underground cave pool. Consider instead that you are visualizing a music video when you try to envision this scenario.
The immaterial or spiritual component of a human or animal that is considered to have immortality. A person’s moral or emotional essence as well as their sense of identity. “she knew in her heart that he would betray her”
- Emotional or intellectual force or intensity, particularly as it is portrayed in a piece of art or in a performance in an artistic medium. “the soul was missing from their interpretation”
- the core or most fundamental aspect of a certain characteristic. “he embodied the very essence of prudence”
Definition 2 is the one that will be the focus of this discussion, thus I believe it is important to highlight several terms that the dictionary classifies as “similar” to definition 2.
- Passion
- intensity
- enthusiasm
- warmth
- energy
I get a feeling of this passion in a lot of the percussion, which, in a fair percentage of the songs, is lively; nevertheless, there are instances where a softer liveliness comes through, leading to a warmer production. The lyrics frequently take a reflective, melancholy tone or depict the darker aspects of romantic love.
Lol Eason what the hell does that mean? Oh, and either figure it out or come chat to me about it:) So, in this scenario, what does one plus one equal? A window you say ? Not exactly. From what I can gather, the combination of vapor and soul results in music that is easy on the ears and has flowing sounds, production that gives life to the music, and lyrics that are grounded in an unsure or perhaps melancholy state of mind.
And that concludes this round. That’s what we call “vapor soul.” I really wish I had some videos or postings to assist me understand this genre, or at the very least, provide some alternate interpretations of what is considered to be under this category.
- However, for the time being, we are relying on playlists to demonstrate by way of example.
- Send me a message in the comments section letting me know if you agree, disagree, or have anything else to add or recommend.
- I want to hear from as many of you as possible:) As always, I appreciate your attention to what I have to say.
✌️ ‘n Carrots, eace Ps, there may be articles or samples of vapor soul music that can be found on the internet, but I didn’t want to look through all of the websites related to vaping in order to locate them haha.
