The heavy metal band Slipknot from the United States released their first studio album under their own name, titled Slipknot.
- It was released on June 29, 1999 by Roadrunner Records, after a demo that had previously been published in 1998 featuring a handful of the tracks that would later be included on the album.
- Following that, in December of 1999, it was republished with a track listing and mastering that had been subtly modified as a result of a lawsuit that had been filed earlier.
It was the first record by the band to include Ross Robinson as the producer, and he wanted to improve Slipknot’s sound rather than change the group’s overall musical approach. This is the only album that features founding guitarist Josh Brainard, who departed the band towards the conclusion of recording in late 1998 while the band was taking a short vacation.
- The album was released in 1999.
- At this point, Jim Root had already recorded two tracks, and he would go on to appear often on later albums.
- The album has music from a variety of genres, but it is most famous for the abundant use of percussion and the overall heavy feel.
- It was very well received by both fans and reviewers alike, and it was largely responsible for bringing about a significant surge in Slipknot’s popularity.
It reached its highest position on the Billboard 200 chart at number 51, and it has since been awarded a certification of double platinum in the United States, making it the band’s album with the most copies sold. The readers of Metal Hammer magazine decided in 2011 that it was the finest debut album released in the previous 25 years and voted for it that year.
What type of metal is Slipknot Reddit?
This is how I’m going to explain the new CD to my mother, who will be 67 years old the next time I see her, when I play it for her on the way to lunch from our house. Mom, do you remember that strange band that I used to play so loud back in 1999? Oh, you mean the one with the penis-nose man and the people wearing masks? Check out this, it’s going to be on their new album, which is going to be a post-west coast blackened melodic jazzcore funk pop record.
What kind of metal band is Slipknot?
They were classified as a Nu Metal band when they first formed, but in interviews conducted over the years and as a result of the band’s musical evolution, members of the band have been caught referring to themselves as “Metal Metal.” They are classified as newer forms of metal.
Do you consider Slipknot a sub genre?
Although they are on the heavier end of the musical spectrum, I refer to them as Alternative Metal. They do draw inspiration from various genres, but for the most part, they remain inside one area. The concept of genres ought to be considered fundamental nevertheless.
How would you describe Slipknot’s sound?
Slipknot refers to their music as “metal metal,” and the band believes that any similarities to nu metal are merely accidental and the product of the fact that nu metal emerged around the same time that Slipknot did. The music of the band often consists of a guitar setup with a heavy emphasis on downtuning, a sizable percussion section, sampling, synths, and DJing or turntablism.

Slipknot is a band from the United States that plays heavy metal music. They had their start in 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa, when percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison, and bassist Paul Gray got together to establish the band. After going through a number of lineup shifts in its formative years, the band eventually settled on the following nine members, all of whom have been with the group for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Jim Root.
Gray passed away on May 24, 2010, and guitarist Donnie Steele served as a replacement for him from 2011 until 2014. On December 12, 2013, Jordison lost his position as a member of the band. During the recording sessions for.5, “The Gray Chapter,” Steele abruptly departed the band. The band was able to find replacements for the positions of bassist and drummer in the form of Alessandro Venturella and Jay Weinberg, respectively.
As of December 2013, the only original member still performing in the band’s current configuration is percussionist Crahan. This is because Jordison has now left the band. Michael Pfaff took Fehn’s position in the band when he was kicked out of the band in March 2019, before to the creation of the song “We Are Not Your Kind.” Fehn was fired from the band.
